In the remote natural setting of Golden Gate Canyon State Park, we co-created an open-hearted learning experience with Dr. Pranav Chawla. June 2023 | Veterinarian Medicine Wellness Retreat
This three-day camping retreat provided a healthy mix of relaxation, learning, local excursions, and self-reflection in beautiful Buena Vista, CO. Colorado veterinarians gathered to discuss boundaries, the chaos of the post-pandemic world, and how we can love our work and our lives. We partnered with Dr. Pranav Chawla to practice meditation & mindfulness, creating space for individual processing time between group activities.
September 14, 2019 | Veterinary Medicine – A job? A career? A calling?
This two-hour interactive workshop at at Colorado Veterinary Medical Association’s annual continuing education Convention, explored the idea that viewing our work as a calling can affirm our commitment to our work and give meaning to our struggles – but it can also cause shame, perfectionism, workaholism, and it can make us vulnerable to exploitation by employers. We can care about what we do – and excel at it, make a difference, and find meaning in our work! – without letting it consume us. What if the way to a healthier population of veterinarians is to destigmatize the idea that our work can be “just a job”?
June 28th through June 30th, 2019 | CVMA’s Second Annual Wellness Retreat
In the beautiful recesses of Golden Gate Canyon State Park, Colorado veterinarians and their families gathered for this community-based camping weekend and experiential learning experience, hosted by the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association. We partnered with Adelyn Shimizu and Dylan Marsh, of Colorado State University’s department of Occupational Psychology, to hold discussions regarding the benefits and pitfalls of thinking of one’s career as a job versus a calling, and whether we might have healthier boundaries and better balance if we would reframe the way we see our careers.

In collaboration with Josh Vaisman, presented to veterinarians on the topic of resilience at VCA’s spring meetings for Associate Doctors. A topic of critical importance to all within our demanding veterinary profession, this one-hour session offered strategies to bring resilience within reach.
